Bird Lands in Palm Springs: A New Daytime Café from F10 Hospitality
A Simple, Intentional Daytime Café
The Bird is the word in Palm Springs this week, as a new café opened its doors on East Palm Canyon. The succinctly named Bird is the latest concept from F10 Hospitality, perched at the south end of Palm Canyon directly across from Mr. Lyon’s — one of the group’s flagship restaurants.
Bird opens with a clear, intentional premise: a daytime café serving coffee, pastries, and light eats. The coffee program is built around Onyx Coffee Lab, one of the country’s most respected roasters, and the menu includes espresso drinks, matcha, chai, and cold brew. They’ll be open daily, initially from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., with hours expected to expand into the evening as the café settles in.
Inside, the space is warm and modern, built around a corrugated wood counter, exposed beams, soft pendant lighting, and shelves dotted with plants and small objects. Outside, a bright patio with white café tables, umbrella shade, and potted palms frames the mountain backdrop — a simple, inviting extension of the neighborhood.
A Family Thread and a Clear Identity
F10 founder Tara Lazar named Seymour’s, the speakeasy at Mr. Lyons, after her father. Bird continues that family line with her mother’s nickname. The freshly painted red bird mural on Highway 111 makes the café impossible to miss, and it’s hard not to avoid thinking of the early bird catching the worm — an idea that feels right at home for a place built around early mornings, fresh pastries, and a steady neighborhood rhythm.
A Coffee Shop AND A Wine Bar
The opening morning was bustling as familiar faces from the neighborhood stopped in, giving Bird a lively first official day after its quiet soft‑opening from Tuesday through Friday. Staff handled the pace well, and Steen Bojsen‑Møller, F10’s Beverage Director, was busy making sure everything ran smoothly. Even so, he took a few minutes to sit down and walk through Bird’s concept and the details behind the rollout.
Bird will operate as both a coffee shop and a wine bar, with the wine program expanding as the café finds its groove and Palm Springs moves toward the busier season. The beverage fridge was already well‑stocked: canned wine coolers, non‑alcoholic Palomas and Margaritas, Onyx’s ready‑to‑drink coffees, Health‑Ade kombucha, and Little West juices — a California cold‑pressed brand built around fresh, produce‑driven blends. It’s a thoughtful mix that complements Bird’s early‑morning coffee crowd and hints at the wine program still to come.
An Expanding Food Program
The pastries on offer were excellent, especially the monkey bread. Steen explained that the building originally served as F10’s office and commissary, and both functions still operate in the back. The front has now been repurposed as Bird, and Tara herself was in the kitchen baking during the opening morning. The pastry program is particularly noteworthy, as it reflects the made‑from‑scratch ethos that defined Cheeky’s when it first opened.
As we enjoyed pastries and coffee, Steen added that Bird would soon be rolling out sandwiches and salads for lunch. Mason‑jar salads were already stocked in the fridge, and additional sandwiches were being prepared for release later in the afternoon — a sign of how quickly the daytime menu is taking shape.
A New Anchor on the East Palm Canyon Bend
Bird’s arrival fills a noticeable gap on the bend where South Palm Canyon curves into East Palm Canyon — a dog‑leg stretch that has quietly become one of the city’s most interesting daytime corridors. With Kreem, Gabino’s, and El Mirasol just across the street, Bird adds a fresh anchor to a micro‑cluster that continues to evolve and define the neighborhood’s character. Its presence reinforces the ongoing transformation of East Palm Canyon, where new concepts are shaping Palm Springs’ daytime dining landscape and giving locals more reasons to stay close to home.
And for this writer, it’s an especially welcome addition: I often walk the half‑mile to Koffi for a morning coffee, and Bird now sits just behind my house — a new neighborhood spot with the potential to become part of my daily routine.
